This 1940’s home offered many opportunities to “extend” its traditional aesthetic in a contemporary manner. The design features a family room on the lower level that extends outwards, through flanking glazed walls and upwards with a two story volume. A new home office on the upper level spatially flows into and “interlocks” with the volume of the family room below. Flat ceilings extend outward, into long eaves – capitalizing on horizontality of the traditional aesthetic . The interiors are warmed with Douglas Fir trim and cabinets, and oak wood flooring throughout.

A cozy wooden gem - one of the original “Canyon” homes nestled in the Hollywood Hills along Mulholland Drive – the residence has been remodeled to include new and larger living spaces more fitting to contemporary family lifestyle needs. Maintaining the home’s charming handcrafted “personality” was paramount in the design. A large wood paneled den, becomes a family room with generous new windows and skylights – allowing the beauty of the forested hillside into the home via percolating sunlight. The master bedroom is extended with a bay window/seat and french doors have been added connecting to an adjacent garden.
